Patience is something I struggle with.

Now don’t get me wrong, when I have my nurse or my coaching hat on I’m the most patient person in the world. It takes a lot to get me worked up. However, when it comes to my own personal life, I want everything yesterday.

I want success. I want financial freedom. I want work-life balance. I want my ideal body weight. I want to have a clean diet and train every day. I want to go on exotic vacations. I want to have abundant energy.

Except… I don’t want to wait for any of it!

 

So how do I get past it?

Truth be told, it’s hard, and often I mess up. I’m such a perfectionist and a #goalgetter that I don’t want to sit back and wait… let alone trust that these things will come. But that is exactly what I have to do… and without fail, everything that I have applied this to has come to be.

I know it sounds crazy, but once you sort of let go of what you want to have, focus on what you already have, and trust your life to (God, the universe, fate, destiny, Buddha, the law of attraction), things work out. The only catch?

You have to 100% believe you will eventually have what you desire.

 

And that is tough. But here’s what I do: focus on each day as it’s own entity. Ask yourself what little things you could do today that would eventually help you reach your goals. Go for a walk? Have a healthy snack? Put away $20 in your savings? Write a to-do list? Meditate? Continue doing this every single day, and eventually all of those little steps will pay off when the time is right.

It happened with my new job at the children’s hospital. It happened with my wedding. It happened with the move to Florida. It happened when I wanted to travel across the world. It happened when I decided to commit to being healthy.

 

The time will eventually be right, it may just not be on your schedule.

 

You have to really truly let go, trust (insert your belief here), BUT also trust your gut. If your gut is telling you that you need to cool it with your workouts, roll with that. If your gut is telling you this friendship is toxic, well maybe you need to do something about it. If your gut says that you can’t put anything in your savings this week, then don’t.

However, here’s another catch: there’s a difference between your intuition and your fear of failure.

If you have the feeling that you need to ease up with your exercise, ask yourself – are you giving up because you’re not seeing results and you feel your efforts are futile, OR is your body really just asking for a break? Is your friendship toxic and hurting you, or is there something that YOU need to change? Can you really not afford to drop a little cash into your savings, or are you afraid of not having that extra $20 for the week because well, ya never know?

 

This is so hard to do, let alone write about. Hopefully I’ve gotten my message across clearly, but just in case I haven’t, here’s a quick summary:

 

Patience is key to achieving all of your desires. You must let go of control, while still taking small steps forward every single day. Listen to your intuition, but do not confuse that voice with the voice of fear. You must believe that you can have everything you want, and I promise you will…. But it may not all happen according to your schedule.

AND THAT’S OKAY! Enjoy life in the in-between! Relinquish control, find joy in your days, and reap the rewards of your small efforts… eventually!
